This is what happens during hell week. But in our college, hell week kind of happens more than once a month. Just wanted to film this to show how crazy Arki workload can be. It's going to class, going home and working til morning. Then repeat! Also, I edited this vlog to show how I was feeling on those days. You'll see that I started the vlog really happy and excited and on Wednesday I had a mild breakdown. I won't edit my vlogs to make it look like I have an epic life. I want my vlogs to show my real life, so no sugarcoating. Hope you guys somehow enjoy this vlog (???) Thank you for watching! Not knowing very much about the Philippines before I visited, I was pleasantly surprised by Manila and Subic and how they both reminded me of America. The highlight of the trip was getting a chance to visit a Vietnamese boat people refugee camp near Baataan. I met some friendly Pinoys too. The food was great. The transportation readily available. And the landscape extremely beautiful. There are plenty to see and do as well. -------------------------------------------------- About Me: I'm Kyle Le and I live, travel, and eat in Vietnam and many Asian countries. New Zealand National Film Unit presents Architect Athfield (1979) 'Architect Athfield' examines the frustrations and achievements of one of New Zealand's most lively and innovative architects. In 1975 Ian Athfield won an international competition directed towards providing housing for 140,000 squatters from the Tondo area in Manila. Ironically, Athfield had jumped to international prominence before any wide-ranging acceptance in his own country. This film examines Athfield's practical philosophy of architecture, and culminates in his trip to the Philippines, where he hopes to make his prize-winning design a reality. Don Angel Mascuñana & Family Talisay, Negros Occidental, Philippines 1936 This was filmed by an American family friend using an 8mm Bell & Howell movie camera. It was during a town fiesta of Talisay sometime in 1936. The narrator is Indalecio or "Dodoy" one of the younger sons of Don Angel, who was one of the little boys in the film. Overcrowding, excessive buildings and concrete, and negative environmental stimuli lead to unhealthy mental and physical stress for people living in dense urban cities. Restorative landscapes, woven into the existing grid, that are focused on quality of mind, body, and community, will incorporate nature's benefits, support social connections, and promote daily physical activity, via a green network of parks, plazas, and gardens.
Rebecca McKenna’s presentation centers on the construction and use of Baguio, an American colonial retreat in the U.S. colonial Philippines located in the mountains of northern Luzon. It had been designed for U.S. officials to find relaxation and reprieve from the tropical heat of the lowlands and arguably from their colonial charges. To build this colonial place, Americans appropriated indigenous peoples’ land, transforming what had been fodder for the Ibaloi peoples’ cattle into sites for recreation and landscape views to offset colonialists’ nostalgia and gird them for the colonial occupation. Ibaloi pasture became grassy parks, a polo field, a golf green tended by Ibaloi caddies, and flower and vegetable gardens of the colony’s new headmen. Though the enclave, far from the Manila capit...
